On Windows I'd say EAC, but equally as good on Linux, a script using cdparanoia and such called abcde. Converting CDs to digital files on Windows: Insert your CD into your disc drive.

XLD is free and kinda the standard for Mac. MediaMonkey should automatically search an online database for artist, album and track names. MacOS: I rip the CD via iTunes (AIFF) and then use MediaHuman Audio Converter to convert the AIFFs to FLAC. You'll need to check the box next to each track to get WMP to rip them again in FLAC. The resulting flacs are recognized as DTS when played back. From there, EAC rips to WAV and then converts to FLAC using my preferred settings. Finally, press ' Rip CD ' button on the menu bar to convert CDA files to FLAC songs. If I remember right, it is a simple one step process which isn't any different than ripping a normal redbook CD: Insert the CD and then click on the -> CMP button. Select ' FLAC (Lossless) ' option in the drop-down list of ' Format '. Open dBpoweramp CD Ripper and click the Options button. If I've already ripped a CD to MP3 in the past and want to rip it again to FLAC WMP will say that the tracks are already ripped/in collection or something similar. Navigate to ' Rip Music ' tab, change the ripped music location and file name.

I am less clear on how I would run abcde from the Volumio headless App over the network to my Phone or Tablet. Once the software is installed, open it up and insert a CD. After installing dBpoweramp Music Converter, run dbPoweramp Configuration. I think that this would be all the hardware I need as long as the Power Supplies were capable of supplying the current and would be a really elegant solution if I can get it to work. I also have a USB connected 2.5" Disk and can connect both of these to te RPi USB Ports (via a powered USB Hub if necessary. I have a USB DVD Drive (Samsung) which is very low power and easily runs off a USB 2.0 Port. You will need an external DVD/CD drive with its own power supply or - even better! - an internal DVD drive

It would be nice to have a ripper which stores the flac files on the same storage device where mpd will immediately find them. I wanted to turn Volumio into a CD Ripper myself, but still had not the time for this.
